 For much of its history, North Adams was a small mill town. Manufacturing began in the 1800s because the confluence of the Hoosic River provided water power to the manufacturing industry.  Today, with the Massachusetts Museum of Contemporary Art, as well as with the Berkshire Art Museum and the Eclipse Mill Artist Lofts and the Historic Beaver Mill Artist Studios,  there has been an economic transformation in the region based on cultural, recreational, hospitality and educational offerings. 

12 contemporary rooms within the Historic Beaver Mill housing 40 artist studios and the Rudd Art Foundation Studio/Museum, adjacent to Natural Bridge State Park, and just one mile to MASS MoCA, MCLA, and Downtown North Adams.  

You’ll love our location – in an historic mill, surrounded by parkland and a river, and no more than three minutes away from the North Adams attractions. 

We are geared for artists, performers and visitors interested in the arts. We encourage longer stays – a 3-day minimum but 6-day, 9-day, 12-day stays or longer are common for people in the arts (some might be participating at MASS MoCA or using art studios elsewhere in the mill).  

There’s no need to eat out every day and for every meal - a communal kitchen on the second floor allows basic food preparation (guests have personal refrigerator/cabinet storage space).  Additionally, we have lots of interior space for dining, meetings, or work to make longer stays more pleasant.  During warmer months, there are outdoor tables in our private yard or river park.

Free WIFI and onsite parking.  All rooms have Queen beds, smart TVs, desk, safe, fan; we use contactless check-in with a digital lock system.  

Economical rates with three-day minimum stays and additional discounts for longer stays.  Sorry, no smoking, pets, or children under 16.  

Extra benefits: Free weekly wine/cheese art studio tours, including the Rudd Art Foundation Studio Museum.  During summer and fall, guests have free admission to the Berkshire Art Museum.  A gift-book of “Portrait of the Northern Berkshires” is given for all stays.  For artists staying at least two weeks, an adjacent private art/work studio on the second floor (200 square feet) is available for an additional rental fee.
